Rules of Photography Review:

Depth of Field (shallow and wide) -
Light (angle and intensity) - plays a roll in pictures, where it comes form and how intense play a major roll
Shadows - absence of light, big deal when it comes to pictures
Diffusion - blending the light, soften, scatter, changing the light
Exposure - too light, too dark or perfect (somewhere in the middle)
Aperture (f-stop)- in the lens, how big or small the opening is in the lens, you can control this - smaller the number bigger the opening. Big opening shallow depth of feel. Small opening wide depth of feel.
Shutter speed- inside the body of the camera, controls how long its open and close, you have control of this
ISO- inside the camera, sensor, how sensitive the sensor is to light, you can adjust that. When you increase your ISO your camera is more sensitive to light ( increases the grain)

Types of Lenses:

Telephoto - allows you to zoom and get close to your subject
Prime - do not zoom at all, fixed, you have to move your body if you want the picture to change
Wide Angle - can take a wide angled picture, big openings, 160 degree coverage

News Value:

timeliness - when was it taken, more recent more interest
proximity - closer = more interest
conflict - like conflict pictures,
human interest - people do something that is stranger, we find it interesting
prominence - how important that person is
impact - "wow" can't help but look
novelty - strange ex: wearing a halloween costume everyday
